This is My Blog!
It’s purpose is to keep thouse who are interested, up to date on our adventures whilst living in Uruguay over the next couple to 3 years.
Why Are We Here?
We are here because of a job which basically wooed us over to Uruguay back in November when we came over to check out both the country and the job to figure out if we could live over here. Obviously we were of the opinion we could.
I work for New Zealand Farming Systems Uruguay which is a NZ listed company, with many NZ shareholders. The company owns in excess of 31,000ha of land, with 29 dairy farms currently up and running with a further ??? to be developed. My role with another fellow Kiwi is to help better integrate NZ pastoral farming into Uruguay.
The Journey
Earthquakes in Chile meant we flew out 3 days later and instead of flying with Lan Chile, we flew via Argentina on Aerolineas Argentinas; if you aren’t in a hurry to get to your final destination then they are OK to fly with. – they were 4hrs late leaving Auckland Airport and by the time we got our all 10 pieces of luggage, found two taxis big enough to transport us and our luggage to the other airport some 50mins away, we missed our connecting flight to Montevideo. With no other flights going out that night, Aerolineas had to put us up in Buenos Aires for the night.
Uruguay
Thursday morning we land in Montevideo. After again waiting to get all 10 pieces of luggage from the baggage claim area we have finally made it. Man was I sick of carting 10 pieces of luggage on 3 trolleys needing 2 taxis to get from point A to B and back to A again. I was definitely over it!
Our House
Two words = Heavily Bared
Three words = Has A Pool
We live in a suburb of Monteviedoe, Carrasco which is situated on the citiy’s southeast coast. Our house was secured on the Friday prior to us leaving, unfortunately we had packed up all our gear to ship over to Uruguay on the Wednesday, which also included a swimming pool 12″ diameter from The Warehouse – doull!!! The pool obviously being a big hit with Alexa who swims in it on a very regular basis.

With the house having 4 living rooms we could have done with shipping over a couple of extra couches too – and we certainly has a couple to spare in NZ. The rooms are a really good size so Alexa has plenty of space plus, she has a blue bathroom right down to the toilet bowl…..

In our kitchen, we have what I describe as an over sized gas heater (certainly the same weight). Heaven forbid if we want to use it to cook in……. Fortunately our BBQ can cope – unsure though what we will do if it is raining and we are entertaining.
